Our Commitment to
UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools
At Woodley Primary School, we are proud to be on a journey to become a Rights Respecting School. This means that we place children’s rights at the heart of our school culture, planning, policies and practices. These practices give children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens. It also improves well-being and develops every child’s talents and abilities, so they are able to reach their full potential.
As part of this journey, we are excited to be working towards recognition as a Rights Respecting School, an award given to schools on behalf of UNICEF UK. UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and young people and their rights. We are currently a Silver: Rights Aware school and aiming for Gold!
Rights Respecting work in our school
Within our school, we hold the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the centre of everything we do. We have a Rights Champions committee group from across school who help to ensure everyone is aware of their rights, as well as helping to plan fundraisers and campaigns both locally and globally.
Pupils at Woodley Primary School learn about their rights by putting them into practice every day. A rights-respecting school not only teaches about children’s rights, but also models the rights through our everyday learning, relationships and interactions.
Young people and the school community learn about children’s rights by putting them into practice every day through learning about the ABCDE of rights.
RRSA at Woodley
In each class, we have created a Charter based on the Rights articles that are important to us, this is how we will make sure everyone is able to enjoy their rights and how adults can help to support those rights.
We have taken part in fundraising for different causes, such as completing a water challenge to raise money for WaterAid! We even have artwork displays in our local community to promote the different rights we learn about in school.
