Welcome to our Year 2 page! We teach a broad and balanced curriculum and our Woodley CARE values are at the core of everything we do. We all enjoy taking part in creative lessons which challenge our resilience and encourage everyone to aim high whilst being responsible and respectful individuals. We hope this page provides an opportunity for you to find out more about life in Year 2.

Year 2

Reading at Home

Children in Year 2 bring home a banded book and a choice book and these are changed on a Friday. We ask that children read shorter banded books (up to around level 15) at least 3 times before changing them. 

1. First read – decoding (sounding out words)
2. Second read – comprehension (understanding the text)
3. Third read – fluency (reading smoothly and confidently)
